UC Pharmacy Program Receives Full Accreditation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — The University of Charleston’s Doctor of Pharmacy program has awarded full accreditation.

The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education met in January, and affirmed the full accreditation to the program. The board removed probation and restored the program’s status to Accredited.

Dr. Edwin Welch, President of the University of Charleston, stated, “This affirmation of full accreditation is due to the hard work of many people in upgrading policies, strengthening institutional relationships, and adding seven faculty and administrative members to the School. Thanks are due to Dean Michelle Easton, Provost Letha Zook, the faculty and staff of the School as well as many others in the University. This is a wonderfully positive affirmation of the School and of the learning experiences it provides to each and every pharmacy student.”

“The ACPE Board of Directors decision recognizes the value, strength, and contributions of our program and people. A mindful organization constantly seeks ways to improve as they grow. Through this process we have demonstrated sufficient progress in our strategic growth plan to have our accreditation affirmed. This outcome is the result of dedication, perseverance, clarity of purpose and the unified effort of the University and School of Pharmacy administration, faculty, staff, preceptors, UC personnel, and community supporters,” said Dr. Michelle R. Easton, Dean of the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy.

UC’s pharmacy program started in 2006, and originally received accreditation in 2010.
