Tampa pharmacist convicted in pill mill case

A Tampa pharmacist who dispensed more than 100,000 Oxycodone pills from two pharmacies has been convicted of illegally distributing the drugs.

Brian C. Weiler, 56, of Melbourne, faces 20 years in prison and the forfeiture of his Florida Pharmacist License when he is sentenced on March 13.

A federal jury found Weiler guilty of conspiracy to distribute and dispense Oxycodone for at least two years ending in October 2011, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Weiler filled hundreds of prescriptions for large doses of Oxycodone while working at VIP Pharmacy on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and New Tampa Pharmacy on Waters Avenue, according to the release.

He filled prescriptions for drug addicts and members of doctor shopping organizations who traveled from Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, the release said.

The owners of the pharmacies were previously convicted of federal conspiracy charges.

A joint task force that included the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and the Temple Terrace Police Department investigated the case.
