The course, called Pharmacy Technician Training, meets 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 20 through May 14 at McHenry County College’s Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists by filling, packaging and distributing medications, and maintaining patient records and inventory. Retail chain pharmacies, hospitals and home health-care pharmacies are typical employers.

The 80-hour course is geared toward a variety of students, including pre-pharmacy students, those interested in becoming pharmacy technicians, or healthcare workers looking to strengthen their current skills.

This class introduces students to various pharmacy practice settings, including drug classes, basic physiology, drug interactions and daily pharmacy operations. In addition, students will learn pharmacy math, generics, pharmacy law and interpreting prescriptions.

This program will prepare students to take a national certification exam.

The cost is $1,099, which includes books and materials.
