A homeless man who threatened to shoot a pharmacist during a drug robbery at Walgreen’s Pharmacy in Kingston was sentenced Monday to four to eight years in state prison, according to court records.
Wayne Rodgers, 42, was also ordered to pay $259 in restitution to the pharmacy in an order handed down by Luzerne County Judge Tina Polachek Gartley.
According to police, Rodgers, a former customer, appeared at the pharmacy counter around April 14, 2014, asking for 10 pills of Suboxone, a prescription painkiller used to treat opiate addiction. When pharmacist Angela Gurka denied him because he didn’t have a prescription, Rodgers threatened to shoot her, police said. Gurka then gave Rodgers a box of 30 Suboxone pills and he fled the store, police said.
Rodgers was also ordered not to enter the pharmacy again.
