Keswick pharmacist charged with drug trafficking

TORONTO -

A pharmacist is one of eight people charged with drug trafficking, York Regional Police say.

The charges are the result of an investigation that started in November 2014, police said Monday. Investigators began to probe a Keswick pharmacy after receiving information that the owner, who is a pharmacist, was selling the narcotics fentanyl and Oxycodone NEO to people without prescriptions.

Police allege the pharmacist arranged the sale of the highly addictive opiods through additional suspects and also sold Oxy NEO in unmarked prescription bottles.

On Thursday, police raided the pharmacy and several homes and seized drugs, guns and cash. All eight of the suspects were arrested without incident.

The suspects face charges including drug trafficking, drug possession, and unsafe storage of a firearm.
